Joe Abrams
Joe has worked as a commercial archaeologist since 1998 and now runs his own Consultancy. He has worked extensively across the UK on projects within city centres, market towns, villages and across large rural landscapes. This has been in relation to a wide variety of archaeological remains including listed buildings, scheduled monuments, burial grounds, highland/lowland zone, coastal and terrestrial sites. His work is mainly carried out ahead of development as the UK Planning system requires that archaeological remains are considered ahead of such works.
Joe has carried out research on behalf of the Foundation for Jewish Heritage and this covered the town of Kings Lynn, Norfolk within which his work identified the location and type of remains likely to be associated with the medieval Jewish community of that town. The work helped support a successful effort to place a plaque on Surrey Street, formerly Jews Lane, within the town close to the historic Tuesday Market. He also carried out research into the occurrence, within English Churches, of physical representations of Jews and Judaism. This included sculpture, wood carving and paintings.
Joe is a Board Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
