Holocaust Education in Focus
The Foundation was represented at the Association of Jewish Refugees Forum held to bring together the main organisations working in the field of Holocaust education in the UK under the title ‘Remembering and Rethinking 2026’.
The meeting is held annually to assess the current state of the sector, and this year it focussed on a new report entitled ‘What Next for Holocaust education, research and remembrance’ which launched the event.

There were a range of speakers and workshops addressing various aspects of Holocaust education, including presentations on new programme initiatives. Local MP Harpreet Uppal also joined the gathering giving her perspective on the topic and its importance for British society today.

A highlight was listening to the moving story of Leisel Carter, a child refugee from Nazism, who as a four year old left Germany in 1939 to travel alone to the UK to be reunited with her mother who had earlier managed to secure a job in the country as a domestic servant.
The impressive Holocaust Centre North based at Huddersfield University hosted the event, and there was the opportunity to visit its permanent exhibition and archives based on the testimonies of Holocaust survivors who settled in the Yorkshire region after WW2.
