The Foundation’s Chief Executive Michael Mail was recognised in the UK New Year Honours List becoming a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) as ‘Founder and Chief Executive of the Foundation for Jewish Heritage for services to Heritage and Charity’.
The Honours system recognises people who have made significant achievements in public life and nominations are vetted by Government Departments before approval by the Prime Minister and then the King.
Foundation Chair Dame Helen Hyde commented, ‘I’m delighted that Michael has been awarded an MBE in this year’s New Year Honours List. This national recognition is richly deserved given what he has personally achieved. I am so proud to be associated with him and the work our Foundation does.’
Michael Mail stated, ‘I was thrilled to receive this honour which I consider important recognition for the unique programme of the Foundation in working to preserve and repurpose historic synagogues at risk.’
