As the Foundation starts to address its new nationwide role supporting historic synagogues across the UK, Chief Executive Michael Mail visited the 1874-built grade I listed Princes Road Synagogue in Liverpool.
The visit was hosted by Synagogue Chair Alison Cohen and Trustee Malcolm Phillips who very kindly gave up their afternoon for this.

The Synagogue is extraordinary, and a wonderful example of the ‘cathedral’ synagogues built in the 19th Century that served to demonstrate Jewish arrival into British society as the barriers faced slowly lifted and the Jewish community achieved full civil and political rights.
The Synagogue today faces several significant challenges, and Michael had the opportunity to discuss these with Alison and Malcolm as well as present the Foundation’s plans for the new national programme of synagogue support, funded by the wonderful National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We are so grateful to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for getting behind this unprecedented project to support efforts to preserve these precious historic buildings and ensure they play a role in society today.
Princes Road Synagogue is clearly in that exalted cluster of the most beautiful synagogues in Britain.
